Fisheries & Aquaculture

The fisheries and aquaculture line is the centre's newest unit; as of 2026 the posts are being filled and the first field campaigns are being planned. That is why the publication count on this page is low: the line's own output is still forming.

Three headings are planned. The first is assessing the state of commercial fish stocks in the Marmara from length-frequency and age data; the aim is to show numerically which species fishing pressure has pushed past the limit. The second is water quality management in recirculating aquaculture. The third is assessing microplastic and heavy metal accumulation in seafood from a food safety standpoint — that heading will run jointly with the ecosystems line.

The line aims to work with cooperatives and the relevant units of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Stock data is public policy data; once collected, it will go into open access.
