We study the measurable traces of climate change along the coasts of Türkiye. The questions rest on long-series analysis rather than short-term forecasting: how fast sea level is rising, whether the wave climate is shifting, and how much carbon coastal systems hold.
On the sea-level line we combine tide gauge records with satellite altimetry. At some of the Marmara and Aegean stations the record runs past half a century; that length is what makes it possible to separate the rise signal from seasonal and decadal oscillations.
For wave climate analysis we generate wave conditions from long-term wind reanalysis data and compute design waves with extreme value statistics. That output turns directly into design input for the coastal engineering line — having both areas in one centre speeds up the handover.
Carbon sinks are our newest heading: we derive the carbon storage capacity of seagrass meadows and salt marshes from field measurement. No such inventory exists yet for the coast of Türkiye; building one is what we are attempting.
